ShowBoats Design Awards

ShowBoats (Boat International Media)

Location 2012-2013

Opera House, Monaco

Our client acquired the ShowBoats Design Awards as part of a wider publishing purchase. We have therefore worked with them for five years in adapting and developing this event as part of their wider events portfolio.

As ShowBoats is a US brand, the first two years post acquisition were held in Florida to coincide with the Superyacht Design Symposium and the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. But in order to reflect the exclusivity and prestige of the awards, the client did not want to hold the event in a hotel.

We therefore produced the 2010 and 2011 ShowBoats Design Awards at the Mar A Lago Club, Donald Trump’s private members club in Palm Beach. More specifically, the dinner and the awards themselves took place in the White and Gold Ballroom. The drinks reception and aftershow were in the grounds of the club around the pool. Talbot Productions supplied a production team and, to keep our client’s costs down, we worked entirely with local suppliers for all of the staging, decoration and technical equipment. We created all of the events graphics, videos and scripts in conjunction with the client in the UK before flying two producers and our Head of Digital Content out to Palm Beach for four days to oversee the set-up, rehearsals and the show itself.

As our client explored event synergies across their brands, we moved the show across the Atlantic to Europe, more specifically to Monaco. We staged the 2012 and 2013 Awards at a very different but equally exclusive venue: the Monte Carlo Opera House. This beautiful auditorium provided a stunning backdrop to a short awards presentation, including our customary level of video presentation, before the dinner itself was held just across Casino Square in the Salle Empire. This enabled the show to grow its attendance as it was held at the same time as the Monaco Yacht Rendezvous.

In 2014 we will be taking the show on the road once more, re-uniting it with a new version of the Superyacht Design Symposium and heading into the Austrian mountains to take the world’s leading yacht designers, stylists and architects to another unique venue: Swarovski’s Kristallwattens.
